Boca Raton, FL – Hollander Law Firm supports National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The National Safety Council (NSC) {http://www.nsc.org/Pages/Home.aspx} and FocusDriven (thttp://www.focusdriven.org/index.aspx) eam up each April to promote National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

According to NSC, distracted driving kills at least 5,500 people each year and the number one distraction behind the wheel is cell phone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows (http://www.distraction.gov/):

• At any given daylight moment, less than 1 percent of drivers are actually texting on a phone, while about 9 percent of drivers are actually talking on phones. • Of the 23 percent of crashes involving cell phone use each year, only 2 percent involve texting – the other 21 percent involved cell phone conversations.

Today 30 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam ban text messaging for all drivers. 8 states, the District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands prohibit all drivers from using handheld cell phones while driving.
