PRLog (Press Release) – May 18, 2011 – 17th May 2011, Bangalore: The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) today received a sum of Rs.2.58 crores from Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and its associates towards the Japan Tsunami Relief Fund.
In the light of the massive earthquake and Tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th, 2011, the IRCS, Karnataka State Branch (KSB) appealed to the public, corporates and employees to contribute to the "Japan Tsunami Relief Fund 2011". The response has been very supportive and everyone have come forward to generously contribute to the fund.
The proceeds collected by various groups of Red Cross Society across India will be remitted to Japan Red Cross Society.
In a function organised by the IRCS, KSB today, Mr. Vikram S. Kirloskar , Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) handed over a cheque of Rs. 2.58 crores towards this fund to Dr. S.B.Kulkarni, Chairman, IRCS, KSB. The donation is contributed by TKM and its employees, suppliers, dealers and associate companies. The function was also attended by other important dignitaries from TKM and its associates.
Mr. Vikram S.Kirloskar said, "We express our condolences to those who have been bereaved by this tragic event, and our support and sympathy to the millions who are suffering as a result of this natural calamity and nature� raising chickens �s fury. We are contributing in our own little way and hope that this donation helps the victims".
On receiving the cheque Dr. S. B. Kulkarni said, "Red Cross functions on seven principles and humanity is the main. The volunteers offer their services for the dignity of the human being anywhere on the earth. The funds received by IRCS for Tsunami relief will be forwarded to Red Cross in Japan to utilize it for the relief and rehabilitation programmes. Red Cross Karnataka expresses grateful thanks to management and staff of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd."
